Samaria opening probably next weekend

Finally, we have some news about the opening of the entire route through the Samaria Gorge. From May 22, only the lower, two-kilometer section between Agia Roumeli and the Iron Gates is open. There are many indications that the entire gorge will be made available to tourists this weekend.

This is not an official decision yet, as it is to be announced within the next two days. According to the director of the Chania Forest District, everything depends on the weather at the moment. For tomorrow, among others in the area of the White Mountains, storms and strong winds are expected, which may cause damage to the trail and other difficulties. If, however, there are no such, and the weather normalizes, the opening of Samaria can be expected on Saturday, June 12. If the weather makes it impossible to enter the trail on that day, the official opening of the National Park will take place on Sunday, June 13, or the next day when the weather is favorable. So, in fact, something is known, but not entirely ;-)
