The first predictions for next year's tourist season in Greek Greece are exceptionally positive. First of all, there is a significant increase in hotel and guesthouse bookings. Next year's flight plans developed for the "Nikos Kazantzakis" airport in Heraklion show that the season will start relatively early. The first tourists can be expected to arrive already from the first ten days of March, while April is already expected to bring the first mass arrivals.
According to information provided by ekriti.gr, pre-bookings with European tour operators for major Greek destinations are growing at a double-digit rate compared to last year. Crete and Rhodes once again occupy the first places in preferences in all major markets.
It is estimated that the volume of pre-bookings made from December to early March can reach up to 30% of the total number of bookings. Packages of tourist services sold during this period are offered at lower prices. This is also the time when travel trends for the next year are shaped. This allows for indicating the destinations with the greatest potential.
The TUI Group, which is the largest tour operator in Europe and at the same time the largest "supplier of tourists" to Greece, has sent over three million people to this country this year alone. The prospects for next year are even better, and the appetites of this powerful group are growing. In Berlin, during the presentation of the program for summer 2025, Benjamin Jacobi, head of TUI Germany, said that " The Greek islands are starting the summer season with a large increase in bookings ". Following the blow, the tour operator is expanding its offer to include other Greek destinations and expanding its summer program for 2025.
German travel agency Alltours has also seen sales rise by 18% this year and is preparing for another strong summer in 2025, opening four new hotels in Crete and Rhodes, as well as stepping up the pace on smaller Greek islands.
Sources from the hotel market say that increases in the number of bookings are not only being noticed in the German market, which is the most important market for Greece. An increase in the number of early bookings is also being noticed in the French market. Demand from Great Britain, on the other hand, remains at the same level as last year. High hopes are pinned on the American market, which this year brought an 8% increase in arrivals and a 6% increase in revenues.
The growing popularity of Greece is also visible in the constantly expanding flight network of carriers such as British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, SWISS, Finair and Easy Jet. At the same time, airlines with an increasing network of connections from Poland, Romania and Italy are also entering the game. TUI will further expand its flight offer to Greece next year, with particular emphasis on Crete. Most of the planned flights will be operated to and from the " Nikos Kazantzakis " airport in Heraklion.
Thanks to strategic investments and growing demand, Heraklion is becoming a major hub for cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is expected to welcome over 500,000 passengers in 2025, consolidating its position as one of the main ports in this part of the Mediterranean. The port’s continuous development, combined with cooperation with major companies, allows for the opening of new cruise routes that start or end in Heraklion, offering benefits to both the local economy and Cretan tourism.
Heraklion is now a key destination for multi-day cruises in the Aegean, Adriatic and Western Mediterranean, with popular companies such as Celestyal Cruises and MSC including it in their itineraries.
If everything goes according to expectations, it will be a dynamic and crowded season. Greece has a lot to offer and everything indicates that even the price increases that the Greek government will serve tourists next year will not have a major impact.
