Record year for Knossos and announcement of price increases

This year's October was the best for Crete in terms of the number of foreign tourists in recent years. The higher attendance also translated into the number of guests who visited the Minoan Palace in Knossos. This most popular tourist attraction on the island was seen by as many as 120,000 people last month. For comparison, during the same period in 2023, a total of 97,900 admission tickets were sold.

The total number of people who have visited the archaeological site for the whole year is already approaching one million. During the same period last year, Knossos was visited by 960,000 people. Now, although the tourist season has ended, Knossos is still open to visitors every day. This is used by school trips and tourists arriving at the port of Heraklion on large cruise ships.

Unfortunately, we have some not-so-optimistic news at the end. From April 2025, an increase in the price of tickets to the excavations has been announced. In the summer season, until October, the price of a ticket will increase from 15 to 20 euros.
