Last week, October 31, Thursday ended the firefighting season in Crete. On this occasion, a summary of the work of the fire brigade and other services involved in the fight against fires was held in Heraklion. The most important information that was included in the report that was prepared for this event is that this year was extremely safe. Importantly, not only relatively few interventions were noted, but also the small area of the island was destroyed as a result of fires.

In total, only 738 acres of land were burnt this year by the end of October. This is the lowest result that has been recorded since 1998. It is worth noting that last year the island's surface destroyed by fires was about 20 times larger.
We hope that this year's result will be repeated in subsequent years, and that firefighters and other services will be able to enjoy the least number of major interventions.
Finally, we would like to remind you that at the end of the firefighting season, the regulations governing access to certain hiking trails and forest areas will be suspended. The update of the fire hazard map in Greece is also suspended, which you can also find on our website.
