Crete is one of the most popular Greek holiday destinations. It is an island where everyone will find something for themselves. There are beautiful landscapes, ancient monuments, extraordinary beaches, picturesque mountains and azure sea. It is an island of contrasts that has sunk deep into the hearts of many people. However, it is not a place without flaws and unresolved problems.
Some people who spent their holidays on the island do not only have pleasant memories. Many tourists visiting the island notice the problems that Crete is struggling with. So what do they complain about according to an article published in one of the local portals?
One of the most noticeable problems is the poor condition of many roads and insufficient signage. Many tourists emphasize that they had difficulty moving around the island, especially in more remote areas, where the road surface was poor and there was a lack of signage. In our opinion, tourists coming to Crete may have a problem moving on the winding roads in more mountainous areas, because they may simply be unused to such roads. We are curious about your opinion on this matter.
The second major noticeable problem is the lack of an adequate number of parking spaces in cities, especially in the centers. Anyone who has driven around Chania or Heraklion knows what it looks like. However, parking problems in cities are not unique to Crete.
An increasingly visible problem is the insufficient infrastructure of bicycle paths. Although marked paths are slowly appearing in cities, and beautiful natural landscapes encourage people to explore Crete by bike, anyone who has tried to travel by bike knows that moving around in this way is not the easiest. There are no marked safe routes here, and narrow roads and often unfriendly drivers are unfortunately not conducive to cyclists.
A large number of guests also notice problems with general waste management and cleanliness. Despite the efforts of local authorities, there are still problems with collecting and properly disposing of waste. A large number of residents are also not interested in improving this situation. Probably each of us, spending time in Crete, has often seen garbage lying by the roads or near abandoned and "nobody's" places. Similarly, the sight of littered beaches is also offensive to everyone, although in this case it is not always the fault of the island's residents. Sea currents sometimes throw waste from other places onto Cretan beaches. Unfortunately, it is not a nice sight anyway, especially on such a beautiful island.
Many people also complain about Cretan airports, especially the one in Heraklion. It is too small for the number of passengers that are served in the summer months. The state of the infrastructure at this airport also raises major concerns. This problem will be solved with the opening of the new airport, which is currently being built.

Wij hebben helemaal geen probleem met Kreta en helemaal niet met de wegbewijzering daar. Trouwens tegenwoordig heb je ook navigatie zo niet dan rij je gewoon op gevoel je komt altijd wel op een mooi plekje uit en je komt vanzelf wel op een weg met wegbewijzering tegen. Maar wat kan het je schelen je hebt vakantie

CRETE - Kreta a b...og a security/head staff woman from Aegean at the airport denied us to board our plane without any legal reason after a traumatic incident the evening before 5 years ago. And called me a bad mom for fighting for my family. She was cold and had no authority to do so. Will never set foot in that Island again

9razy byłam na Krecie, jest super, jeździmy na nawigacji po polsku i jeszcze nas nie zawiodła. Pozatym jeżdżą autobusy, co prawda nie zawsze punktualnie, ale przecież na urlopie nigdzie mi się nie spieszy
