The Venetian port of Chania in the eye of artificial intelligence

The possibilities of artificial intelligence have been one of the most repeated topics in recent months. An interesting experiment with its use was conducted by Giorgos Agorastakis, one of the inhabitants of Chania and at the same time the President of the Association of Friends of Crete. Agorastakis asked the chatbot Bing to show images from the Venetian port of Chania and posted the results of the artificial intelligence on his social media.

By synthesizing hundreds of available photos of Old Chania, AI repainted its version of the historic port. It is true that most of the individual elements are real, but the final composition of the painting is far from reality. What immediately catches the eye is the changed location of the Faros lighthouse. In virtual reality, it is not the culmination of the breakwater, but has been placed among the tenement houses of the Old Town.
