Coronavirus is one of the hottest topics currently appearing in the media around the world. The threat of an epidemic of this virus, unfortunately, also does not bypass Greece and thus Crete. Most likely, most of you already know that the local medical services also had their first illness in Greece. Currently, four people have been diagnosed whose tests showed the presence of this disease. Due to the threat of an outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Greek Health Minister V. Kikilia (Β. Κικίλια) decided to cancel carnival events throughout the country. Of course, this regulation also applies to Crete.
Above you can see what last year's carnival party in Rethymno looked like.
In connection with taking such preventive measures, various types of carnival events and parades taking place, among others, in such cities as: Ierapetra, Chania, Melidoni, Archanes, Agio Nikolaos, Malia, and even Rethymno, famous for this type of events, and in many other places were canceled. . And although for many people it will certainly be an unprecedented situation, it must be approached with great understanding.
If you have a planned vacation in Greece in the near future combined with participation in mass events, we recommend you follow the Greek media, e.g .: http://www.ekathimerini.com/ .
