Gortyna - an ancient metropolis

Gortyna is considered one of the most extensive excavations in Greece. The city ruins with a history that has been uninterrupted for 6,000 years, are cut by almost half-modern asphalt. On one side of the road behind the fence you will find remains of the church of St. Titus, a small odeon and unusual tablets with Gottine law. On the other side between the olive trees are the extensive remains of the basilica, the temple of Apollo and the Egyptian Gods, the Praetorium and Roman baths.
