Mount Juchtas

Today, we invite you for a movie trip to Mount Juchtas (Όρος Γιούχτα). This mountain is located in the central part of Crete, near the village of Archanes, about 10 km south of Heraklion . This low (811 m above sea level) mountains are surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. In ancient times, it was considered a holy mountain, because its profile resembles a human face staring at the sky. It was believed that this is the face of Zeus, and the mountain is his tomb.

Mount Juchtas was also important for the Minoans, here there were two sanctuaries. In one of them, a human skeleton with a stabbed knife lying on the altar was found. This is supposedly evidence of human sacrifice by this civilization.

Niestety jak byliśmy minojskie wykopaliska były zamknięte na wielką kłódkę. Ale widoki z góry są warte podejścia, które nie jest trudne.
